A suspect was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a man was seriously assaulted in broad daylight.

Cheshire Police told the Echo officers were called to reports of an incident on Halton Road in Runcorn at 9.50am on Thursday. A force spokesman said they found a man had been seriously assaulted.

The patient was taken to Whiston Hospital. Police have arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of Section 18 assault in connection with the incident.

Police tape had cordoned off a row of small shop units at Taylors Row when the ECHO visited the area.

A patrol car was parked up with a plain clothes officer or detective speaking with the driver.

Witnesses and anyone with any information have been urged to come forward.

Inspector Daniel Haddock, of Runcorn Local Policing Unit, told the ECHO: “I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are doing all we can to establish what took place.

“One man has already been arrested and as part of our ongoing investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the disturbance.

“The same goes for anyone with any video footage of the incident.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us , or on 101, quoting IML 1392889.

“Information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
