A once derelict Northumberland pub is celebrating record bookings after its joint win on Channel 4's Four In A Bed.
The Manor House Hotel in Haltwhistle has sold out for May, June and July since appearing on the popular daytime TV show, and owners Terry and Rachel Christie say that the rest of 2023 is filling up fast. It was a history-making week for the show, with two hosts pulling out before the end of the week, leaving Terry and Rachel to share the prize with Tom and Becky from Orchard Glamping in Garstang, Lancashire.
The hosts took their guests to Vindolanda Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall as part of their stay, and the other contestants praised the quality of the guest rooms, breakfast, and warm welcome at the Manor House. The 17th century pub and guest house was in a dilapidated state and faced closure before businessman Terry published it in 2018, who ploughed his life savings into it with the aim of transforming it into a high-quality gastro pub.

A the same time, the couple have restored and preserved many of the building's original historic features, including wooden ceiling beams, a sandstone fireplace, and the iron rings used to tie up horses. And they hope that bringing Four In A Bed to Haltwhistle will bring many more tourists to the village, which is claimed to be the centre of Britain.
Terry said: "Appearing on ‘Four in a Bed’ was a fantastic experience and certainly helped to showcase this amazing location to the rest of the UK. Haltwhistle has a wealth of history, wonderful walks and cycles routes close by and is only a 20-minute walk from Hadrian’s Wall’s main sites such as Cawfields quarry and Sycamore Gap so it is a wonderful place to visit and stay overnight.
We had great fun filming and loved every minute of it. We even made history by being one of only two couples left on payment day - the first time this has ever happened on the show. We’ve seen huge interest since the episodes aired and bookings for 2023 look set to be our best ever."
The North East appears to be quite en-vogue in the 2023 series of Four In A Bed. As well as Haltwhistle's Manor House, The Sutherland Hotel in Gateshead went head to head with the Mayfield Apartments in Sunderland, who finished second and third respectively behind Brampton Dales Farm; while Fountain Cottage Cafe and Bed and Breakfast in the village of Bellingham in Northumberland National Park is set to appear on the programme this coming week.
