Onam bank holiday today: Are banks open or closed on Tuesday, August 25, 2026? Check status

Customers are advised to plan their bank work well in advance, particularly those that require visiting a physical branch as banks will be closed in Kerala due to the festival of Onam and Milad-i-Sherif (birthday of Prophet Muhammad) on (Tuesday, August 25, 2026) and due to Id-E-Milad (birthday of Prophet Muhammad) on Wednesday (August 26, 2026). In many states, banks will be closed on Wednesday due to the holiday of Id-E-Milad. However, online and mobile banking services will continue to be available during both the holidays.

Banks in August will be closed for festivals such as Ker Puja, Tendong Lho Rum Faat, Patriot’s Day, Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), Birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (birthday of Prophet Muhammed), Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi (birthday of Prophet Mohammad)/Thiruvonam depending on the state.

Are banks open or closed on August 25, 2026?

Banks are closed in Kerala on August 25 to celebrate Milad-Un-Nabi/first Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (birthday of Prophet Muhammed), as per the RBI holiday calender.

Banks across Kerala will remain closed on Wednesday as well for Onam and Id-E-Milad.

Onam is one of the state’s most important and widely celebrated festivals. Since Onam is a major regional holiday, banking services in Kerala will not be available on these days.

Banks are closed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Srinagar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Bihar, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala to celebrate Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad)/Thiruvonam.
