Omari Hutchinson 'set for Chelsea transfer' as Arsenal contract talks break down

Arsenal talent Omari Hutchinson is expected to sign for Chelsea this summer after contract talks with the Gunners broke down.

The highly-rated youngster joined the Gunners academy back in 2015 and will now leave the club for rivals Chelsea after seven years. Hutchinson did not make his professional debut for Mikel Arteta's side but was called up by the Spaniard on eight occasions last term, featuring in the match day squad.

Hutchinson stood out for the Gunners' Under-23s side, scoring six goals and providing a further six assists in 17 appearances in the Premier League 2 last season. Whilst Chelsea look to poach the 18-year-old from Arsenal this summer, the Gunners are targeting a move for the Blues' highly-rated defender Levi Colwill.

Hutchinson signed his first professional contract with Arsenal back in 2020, after joining the club at the age of 11 and progressing through the academy. The Gunners were negotiating a renewal for the 18-year-old's contract this year but talks broke down between the player and club.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to take advantage of Hutchinson's contract situation and sign the highly-rated attacking midfielder. The Blues recently signed exciting young talent Zak Sturge and are now expected to add Hutchinson to their academy ranks.

"Chelsea have signed another talent for the future. After Zak Sturge deal, Chelsea will soon announce Omari Hutchinson as new signing - he’s set to leave Arsenal," Romano stated.

"Talks collapsed with [Arsenal] on new deal, Hutchinson will join Chelsea as @TheSecretScout_ reports. It’s done."

Chelsea could be set to lose talented centre-back Levi Colwill this summer after the 19-year-old impressed for Huddersfield last season during a season-long loan spell with the Championship side. Colwill is attracting interest from the Gunners, Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton, but Arteta's ability to develop and give youth a chance in his squad may see the Chelsea talent make the opposite move to Hutchinson.
