Omari Hutchinson facing Arsenal exit regret after Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk transfer

Arsenal were frustrated to lose Omari Hutchinson in the summer. The wide player decided not to renew his contract in north London and instead make the switch to the west with city rivals Chelsea.

It was a move that left Arsenal supporters frustrated knowing that a talented player who had flourished in the youth side had gone to a rival. Mikel Arteta called Hutchinson up eight times to his Premier League side but the then 18-year-old remained an unused substitute.

He was on the bench for the FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest and the 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the League Cup semi-final first leg. He was not taken in the summer on the US pre-season tour and soon after his move to Chelsea was confirmed.

Since moving to Chelsea he has made his senior debut in the Premier League for Chelsea which might come as some justification to the teenager for making the switch. His 22 minutes against Manchester City in a 1-0 defeat however didn’t leave much on the memory.

There’s a real chance too that these few minutes might be tricky to extend upon, both now and in the upcoming seasons. Chelsea frustrated Arsenal again by hijacking their move for Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

The wide player becomes yet another attacker to have been brought into the club. Besides Hutchinson, Graham Potter has a choice from nine forwards when all are available.

Mudryk and Joao Felix, who arrived on loan for the rest of the season, add to Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic, Armando Broja, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, David Datro Fofana, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.

Chelsea are also reportedly linked with a move for winger Noni Madueke. The Dutch winger would almost certainly be in direct competition with Hutchinson should they make the move. And that's before a likely move to Stamford Bridge for RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku in the summer.

Meanwhile, looking over at Arsenal and a pathway for Hutchinson into the Arsenal first team looks much simpler. Reiss Nelson’s contract comes to an end in the summer and behind Bukayo Saka will be just Marquinhos, who is likely destined for a loan move away to get regular football.

Granted Arsenal are on the lookout now for more talent but perhaps if Hutchinson had the patience of a year, he could have found himself following in the footsteps of Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Nelson and Eddie Nketiah into the forward line.
