Olly Murs issues sassy response to fan as he's told to 'up his game'

Olly Murs didn't mind getting sassy with his fans after one told him he needed to 'up his game'. The singer celebrated topping the charts with hie comeback album, Marry Me, back in early December.

The singer-songwriter, 38, went straight to the top after six years, despite being criticised heavily on social media for the lyrics on one of his tracks which were branded "controlling". Olly said at the time: "Wow, it’s been six years since I had a number one, so thank you so much to all the fans, you lot have been absolutely amazing!

"Thanks to my wonderful team, to the Official Charts Company, I’m just so excited to have a number one album. Marry Me is number one this week! It’s so amazing, I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet. It’s a lot of hard work that’s gone into this, thank you so much!"

The album success follows criticism for his song I Hate You When You’re Drunk, with online users drawing a link to his fiance Amelia Tank. Addressing the condemnation on BBC Breakfast this week, he said: “It’s obviously upsetting to think that people took it that way because it was not that intention. When you listen to the song and you understand the type of artist I am, it was just more in a cheeky fun way."

Olly is now gearing up to hit the road for his Marry Me UK tour which will take place later in the year with the former X Factor star visiting arenas up and down the country. But as he promoted tickets for his end of tour show, which will take place in Plymouth, Olly got an unexpected reply.

One of his followers said: "Huge fan of yours but this new album is not good, you need to up your game Olly." And the Essex-born star didn't mind hitting back with a sassy reply. He typed: "Noted Steve… appreciate the feedback! Sorry I’ve let ya down, I’ll take my number 1 plaque back today and let someone else have it!"

And fans were quick to disagree. @ClaireW59366002 said: "Think steve needs to replace his batteries in his hearing aids !!! Absolute better of an album !! Hence all the @ollymurs love & support here." @EDebbie23 replied: "Sorry Steve, but I think the album is one of Olly’s best #youcantpleaseeveryonelol."

@liselou145 wrote: "Ignore the haters loving the new album. Bring on tour." @Cat_J_Parry commented: "Love sassy Olly. I don't like your number 1 album - I LOVE,LOVE LOVE IT!!! See you on tour Murs!!" @Kevsie shared: "Controversially I think it's my favourite album you've released..." @edwards_kirsty added: "Is Steve sure he's been listenning to the right album? It's your best one yet."

Earlier this week, Olly paid an emotional tribute to Caroline Flack on the third anniversary of her death. He shared a photo of the pair, who became great friends while hosting The Xtra Factor together before stepping up to host the main show for one series. Olly told how he misses his pal while saying February 15 is the "hardest day of the year" after "three years of pain" following her death.

Caroline, the popular host of Love Island, died by suicide on February 15, 2020 at the age of 40. Olly, who shot to fame on the ITV talent show The X Factor in 2009, messaged: "Hardest day of the year 3 years of pain that never goes away but that smile and laughter I can still see and hear everyday! Miss ya Caz."
