Olivia Rodrigo says she is ‘so stoked’ with new song Drop Dead

Olivia Rodrigo has released her latest single, Drop Dead (Doug Peters/PA) - (PA Wire)

US pop star Olivia Rodrigo has said she is “so stoked” with her new song Drop Dead, following the release of the highly-anticipated track.

The 23-year-old, known for hit songs Good 4 You and Driver’s Licence, released the single and its accompanying four-minute-long music video on Friday morning.

It comes just weeks after the singer revealed her eagerly-awaited third album – You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love – will be released on June 12.

The singer took to Instagram with a carousel of images from the new music video, which saw her singing and dancing around the Palace of Versailles in Paris.

Addressing her 39.4 million fans, Rodrigo said: “Drop dead is out now. I love this song so much!

“It’s the first chapter in the story of You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out!

“I was lucky enough to film the music video at the Palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful (director Petra Collins) and I’m so stoked with how it turned out.

Rodrigo also wrote “I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo”, followed by many heart and kissing emojis.

The post was flooded with comments of excitement from fans and fellow stars including singer Conan Gray, who wrote: “I dropped dead.”

Rodrigo, who starred in the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as a teenager, rose to fame after releasing her award-winning 2021 single Driver’s Licence.

The song shot to number one in the UK singles chart and was followed by her debut album Sour, which also made it to the top of the UK chart and won the best pop vocal album and best new artist Grammy in 2022.

Rodrigo released her second album Guts in 2023, which was later followed by the deluxe version Guts (spilled), and she also headlined at Glastonbury Festival and BST Hyde Park last year.

Rodrigo will make her hosting debut on long-running US sketch show Saturday Night Live (SNL) on May 2, where she will also serve as a musical guest.
