Olivia Newton-John' s publicist has admitted it was 'disappointing' to see the late star left out of the In Memoriam section at the 2022 Emmy Awards on Monday night [September 12].
Grease fans were gutted to see the late actress and singer seemingly snubbed from the annual tribute at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles as others were honoured and remembered, just one month on from the star's death being announced by her heartbroken loved ones.
Olivia's exclusion comes as a surprise to many, given the fact the she appeared in a number of American TV show during her successful and varied career, including the popular 1990 festive flick A Mom For Christmas, and it had been expected that the Emmy Awards would pay tribute to her in some way.
"did they miss Olivia Newton John in the memorial part of the Emmy's or am I blind," one angry fan asked online as the show aired in America on Monday night - with another adding: "damn shame there was no recognition or appreciation for olivia newton-john and her illustrious legacy at this year's #emmys in memoriam, after decades of iconic contribution to the entertainment industry, including plenty of starring roles on american tv."
Prior to her passing, Olivia was a frequent face on American TV - appearing on shows such American Idol, RuPaul's Drag Race, Murphy Brown, Glee and Dancing With The Stars throughout the later stages of her career.
When quizzed about Olivia's Emmy Awards snub, the late star's publicist told MailOnline the family are still grieving and do not wish to comment on the matter but, personally, he is 'very disappointed' with the decision not to pay tribute to his former client - listing Olivia's extensive history with Hollywood.
Late stars Anne Heche, Betty White, Bob Saget, Sidney Poitier and James Caan were all remembered during Monday night's Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, as Ted Lasso won big once again and Succession producer Jesse Armstrong's 'sleazy' joke about King Charles III divided the star-studded audience and those watching at home.
Olivia's husband John Easterling announced the sad news of her death last month, as he shared a statement via Olivia's Facebook page with devastated fans and her famous friends, such as John Travolta and actress Barbra Streisand paying tribute to the iconic star.
The actress, who played Sandy in the hit musical movie Grease, passed away at her ranch in Southern California on August 8 at the age of 73.
John Travolta was one of the first to publicly pay tribute to Olivia the night her death was made public - referencing their characters from the 1978 hit musical film in his moving Instagram post.
"My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible," John wrote.
"I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever!
"Your Danny, your John!"
