Olivia Munn and John Mulaney have welcomed a baby girl into the world!
The Newsroom star revealed the pair’s second child was brought into the world via gestational surrogate in a cute post on Instagram.
“Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon,” Munn wrote, alongside a carousel of snaps of her lil’ family.
“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel.
“Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”
Munn then shared the meaning of her daughter’s name Méi — noting it’s pronounced May — which is the Chinese word for plum.
“I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded,” she wrote.
SNL’s Mulaney also shared a tribute post on Instagram, including a video of Méi spitting up on his shoulder after a feed.
“We stole so much stuff from the hospital,” he joked. “I love my little girl so much.”
The couple welcomed their first child Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney on November 24, 2021.
Munn announced in March this year she was fighting luminal B breast cancer, an aggressive form of cancer, in both breasts. In May, she opened up about going through egg retrieval and the relief she felt about being able to still have more children in the future.
As part of her cancer treatment, she had an “oophorectomy and hysterectomy”. Her “uterus, fallopian tupes, and ovaries” were removed in April, as per Vogue.
“We decided to try one more round of egg retrievals because John and I talked about it a lot and we don’t feel like we’re done growing our family,” she said.
“[When we heard] that we had two healthy embryos… John and I just started crying. It was just so exciting.”
She also touched on how using a surrogate didn’t seem so “scary” to her anymore, as she can no longer carry her own children.
“With a surrogate, you have to try to go find a version of yourself somewhere out in the world. Somebody that you trust as much as yourself to live their life as a pregnant woman the same way that you would,” she told Vogue.
“But a surrogate isn’t a scary prospect to me anymore because there’s nothing I can do… if we want to build our family, this is our option. This journey has made me realise how grateful I am to have options for not only fighting cancer, but also having more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options.”
