Oliver Abildgaard sees Celtic loan cancelled as Dane makes Serie A switch

Oliver Abildgaard has had his Celtic loan cancelled – and signed for Hellas Verona for the rest of this season.

The Danish midfielder makes his Hoops exit on Deadline Day, five months on from his late summer move to Glasgow on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan. Appearances were few and far between under Ange Postecoglou amid fierce competition for engine room places and the arrival of Tomoki Iwata has pushed him further down the food chain.

A move back to Denmark with Aalborg had been mentioned but it is Italy where he will go next, having cancelled his Celtic loan. Abildgaard played six times in the Premiership for the champions while he also made a Champions League cameo. A statement from Italy reads: "Oliver Abildgaard Nielsen is yellow and blue. Hellas Verona FC announces that it has acquired the sports services of Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard Nielsen , who has signed a contract with the Gialloblu Club until 30 June 2023 .
