Oleksandr Zinchenko broke down in tears as he spoke to the media ahead of Ukraine's clash with Scotland.
The two nations will face off at Hampden on Wednesday in Ukraine 's first competitive game since the harrowing Russian invasion began.
The match was initially pencilled in for March but was delayed until the summer with FIFA and the Scottish FA giving the warn-torn nation the best possible chance of getting the game played.
And it will finally go ahead on Wednesday with the winner set to face Wales on Sunday for the last remaining place at Qatar 2022.
Much has been made of whether Scotland should stand aside and allow Ukraine through given the dire circumstances but Oleksandr Petrakov and his team are ready.
And Zinchenko insists they are determined to get a result.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he thanked Scotland for their support - but says Steve Clarke 's team will be in for a battle on Wednesday night.
He said: "Firstly I would like to extend my gratitude to the Scottish national team, to the coaching staff, to the players, to the whole lot of the Scottish people who provide Ukraine with this incredible help.
"I spoke with some of the players and staff and they expressed their feelings towards Ukraine for which we are very grateful.
"Secondly, I would describe our mood as a fighting mood.
"Everyone understands what is happening in Ukraine so that is why our motivation is 100 per cent to win.
“Every Ukrainian wants one thing, to stop this war. I’ve spoken with people from all round the world, and also spoken to Ukrainian kids who just don’t understand what’s happening. They only have one dream: to stop the war.
"When it comes to football, the Ukrainian team have our own dream: we want to go to the World Cup, to give these incredible emotions to the people, because Ukrainians deserve it so much at this moment."
