Americans aged 60 and older reported approximately $3 billion (approximately £2.24 billion) in fraud losses in 2025, the Federal Trade Commission said in a report released on Monday, 19 October. The figures show a sharp rise in reports involving losses of at least $100,000 (£74,769.15), with a relatively small number accounting for most of the money reported stolen.
Older Americans reported losses of about $2.4 billion (approximately £1.79 billion) in 2024 and $600 million (approximately £448.61 million) in 2020. The latest figure represents a 25 per cent annual increase and a fivefold rise over five years, according to the FTC's annual report to Congress.
