Oklahoma State is making a change with its men’s basketball program, as the school has moved on from coach Mike Boynton after seven seasons, as first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Boynton’s tenure at Oklahoma State will be best remembered for landing consensus top recruit Cade Cunningham as part of the 2020 recruiting class.
Cunningham remains the highest-ranked recruit in program history, and helped the Cowboys reach their lone NCAA tournament appearance under Boynton during the 2020–21 season. Oklahoma State was a No. 4 seed in the tournament that year, where it lost to Oregon State in the Round of 32.
However, since Cunningham’s departure to the NBA following that season, Oklahoma State has gone just 47–51, which included a 12–20 mark overall this season and a 4–14 record in Big 12 play.
Boynton finished his tenure in Stillwater with a 119–109 record across seven seasons with just that lone NCAA tournament appearance and two NITs.
