Rumors of Oklahoma softball’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.
The two-time defending national champion Sooners are headed back to the women’s College World Series finals after dispatching Stanford 4–2 Monday afternoon in nine innings. The win represented Oklahoma’s 51st victory in a row—the longest streak in Division I history.
In fact, the Sooners own four of the five longest winning streaks in Division I college softball history. Oklahoma previously posted streaks of 41 (2019), 40 (’21–22), and 40 (’20–21) games.
Designated player Kylie Chung’s two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning gave the Cardinal a 2–0 lead, but the Sooners rallied. Oklahoma right fielder Alynah Torres brought home a run in the second on a sacrifice fly and center fielder Jayda Coleman homered to tie the game an inning later.
In extra innings, second baseman Tiare Jennings doubled in a pair of runs to give the Sooners the lead and Stanford was retired in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Oklahoma will meet either Florida State or Tennessee in the championship series, which will begin Wednesday.
