The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned on Tuesday a visit by Israeli far right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.
It said the move is part of Israel’s attempts to alter the historic and legal status of the holy mosque.
It slammed the visit as a provocation to Muslims and flagrant violation of relevant international resolutions.
The OIC held Israel fully responsible for the repercussions on the development and the persistence of such daily violations against Jerusalem, its people and holy sites.
It called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and put a stop to these violations that will only fuel religious conflict, extremism and instability in the region.
Ben-Gvir briefly toured the site under heavy security.
The compound is Islam's third holiest site after Makkah and Madinah and Judaism's most sacred site.
