Ohio State kicker, Jake Seibert, has entered his name in the transfer portal according to an announcement he made on Twitter. Seibert was the No. 2 ranked kicker in the 2020 recruiting class according to 247Sports composite rankings.
The Cincinnati native came to Columbus willing to wait his turn as the Buckeyes relied on Blake Haubeil with the kicking duties. However, Haubeil experienced some injuries during the 2020 season forcing Seibert into action. The true freshman performed admirably converting all 16 extra point attempts and making one of two field goals on the year.
Buy Buckeyes TicketsBut if there is one position Ryan Day and the coaching staff has stayed consistent in searching the transfer portal, it’s been kicker. In 2021, when Seibert could’ve foreseeably taken the reigns, OSU brought in Noah Ruggles from North Carolina. Ruggles would go on to have an outstanding two years with the Buckeyes and Seibert hasn’t attempted a kick for the Buckeyes since 2020.

The coaching staff has continued to bring in new blood at the kicking position. Last year saw the addition of USC transfer Parker Lewis. At the end of 2022, the Bucks added walk-on Jayden Fielding and another transfer Casey Magyar from Kent State. It is not yet known who will take over the kicking duties for the departed Ruggles.
Seibert was gracious in his farewell to Buckeye Nation as he looks forward to what’s next on the gridiron.
