Ohio State gets 35-7 victory over Youngstown State

Ohio State had its first home game of the new season today, matching up against a fellow in-state team, the Youngstown State Penguins. The Buckeyes had an up and down performance much like last week against Indiana but ultimately coasted to a win.

The Buckeyes got their superstar receivers involved early and often after struggling to get the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka last week. Both had stellar performances this week.

Harrison Jr. had 160 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yarder for the opening score of the game. Egbuka caught five passes for 94 yards with his biggest catch being a 28-yard touchdown on fourth down to stretch the lead to 28-7 at the end of the first half.

The biggest storyline of the game was the play of quarterback Kyle McCord. He likely solidified himself as QB1 moving forward. He looked comfortable, confident, and in control running the offense, throwing for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 14-of-20 passes.

Devin Brown also played three series and did some good things, leading two touchdown drives. Perhaps the Buckeyes can find a role for Brown moving forward this season, but for now it appears they made the right decision to start McCord.

After a fantastic performance holding Indiana to just three points last week, the Ohio State defense played well again today. The unit allowed a touchdown on Youngstown State’s opening drive, but then adjusted very well holding the Penguins scoreless the rest of the game.

Next Saturday Ohio State is back in action and will host Western Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET.
