Ohio State football has been working hard to finalize the 2025 class, but one target has slipped away. The Buckeyes submitted an offer to a three-star defensive lineman from the state of Maryland in Darrion Smith, but he has elected to commit to an SEC school.
The Baltimore native recently announced his intentions to play for Tennessee after taking his third visit in four months to Knoxville. The most recent visit, which took place during the program’s Big Orange Weekend recruiting event, was apparently the nail in the coffin.
At 6-foot, 2-inches and 265 pounds, it is easy to see why the Buckeyes wanted to add Smith to the fold, but despite making his final two schools, Ohio State just couldn’t close the deal. There is still time for him to flip his commitment, but it is pretty late in the cycle to expect anything different.
