Ohio State baseball loses the first game of the series to Grand Canyon University

The Ohio State baseball team battled against Grand Canyon University, but couldn’t get the big hits and fell 1-0. The loss puts the Buckeyes’ record at 2-3 early in the season.

Neither team did much offensively, as they combined for just 11 hits but GCU did enough in the bottom of the seventh to scratch across the lone run of the game.

Starting pitcher Isaiah Coupet was masterful, going seven strong innings while giving up just six hits and a run. He struck out 9 and didn’t walk a batter. That kind of line should result in a win, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Reliever Nolan Clegg pitched a clean inning, striking out one. The Buckeyes had scoring chances in the second, third, and seventh but came away empty.

They are back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon facing Gonzaga, with the first pitch scheduled at 4:00 pm ET.
