Ohio Senator and GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance recently engaged in a heated exchange with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, following comments made by both politicians regarding abortion and rape.
The controversy began when Gov. Beshear spoke at the Democratic National Convention, praising the Harris campaign for its stance on abortion rights in light of the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade. In response, Vance criticized Beshear for allegedly misrepresenting his views on pregnancy resulting from rape.
During an interview, Beshear was quoted as saying, 'Make him go through this,' in reference to Vance's stance on the issue. This prompted Vance to take to social media, accusing Beshear of wishing harm upon his family and labeling him a 'disgusting person.'
However, it was clarified that Vance had not referred to pregnancy resulting from rape as 'inconvenient,' as Beshear had claimed. In a previous statement, Vance had emphasized the importance of allowing a child to live, even in challenging circumstances, rather than forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term.
Vance has consistently expressed support for abortion access in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother's life is at risk. He aligns with President Donald Trump's position that abortion policies should be determined at the state level, a stance upheld by the Supreme Court in 2022. Additionally, Vance has advocated for IVF access as part of his reproductive health platform.
