Oh 'hungry' for bigger Celtic role as Jurgen Klinsmann reveals frank conversation over Parkhead game time

Jurgen Klinsmann says Hyeongyu Oh has told him he's "hungry to fight" for a bigger role at Celtic after running the rule over his South Korea star against Kilmarnock.

The striker has made an impression since his January arrival at Parkhead but with Kyogo in the form of his life, starts have been hard to come by for his young understudy. Oh has three goals but just the one start to his name, although did get 45 minutes in the second half of the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock, with his international boss watching on from the stands.

Klinsmann returned to Seoul this week and has been reflecting on his trip to Europe to watch some of his stars in action. And he says he was "very impressed" by what he saw, and is happy to hear he is willing to role up his sleeves and fight for more minutes under Ange Postecoglou.

Klinsmann said: "I went to the Celtic game and Oh Hyeon-gyu was very impressive. At the moment, he doesn't get a lot of playing time at Celtic, but he confirmed to me how hungry he is to fight to try and get a place in the team.

"We met and discussed his development. It was a beneficial time for me to meet the European players. He is a very strong-willed young man. I told him it was important to understand the environment in which he now lives and to fit into it. I am sure he will get more opportunities in the future."

Oh is set to be named in the next South Korea squad for confirmed games against Peru on June 16 and El Salvador on June 20, with talks also ongoing about a potential friendly with Japan, where he would come up against several Parkhead teammates.
