NEW DELHI: Aiming to provide a new commercial space in the heart of the capital, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will begin constructing a seven-storey complex next to Akbar Bhavan in Chanakyapuri in August this year.
The building, which will be named Yashwant Place commercial complex, will be located next to Satya Marg, close to Yashwant Place Market. Tenders have been issued for the project, which will cost Rs 119 crore, including civil, electrical and fire department works, NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay said. It is expected to be completed in 36 months once work commences.
“The proposal to build the complex was taken up a few years ago when the housing and urban affairs ministry approved increasing the floor area ratio (FAR) for buildings in Delhi. We realised a swimming pool area next to Akbar Bhavan could be used for creating a new commercial complex with state-of-the-art facilities. After fulfilling the architectural requirements, we initiated work on the project and invited tenders,” he said.
Upadhyay added that the complex will consist of three basements spread across 4,344.6 sqm each, lower ground floor (4,208.3 sqm) and ground floor (1,159.1 sqm). The total covered area of the building will be 8906.7 sqm, he added.
“The project will meet all design features and prerequisites in line with Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) version 3, such as provisions for STP, dual piping system and structural glazing,” said Upadhyay.
