Not a lot went right on offense for the Raiders during the 2023 season. Jimmy Garoppolo flopped as the replacement for Derek Carr. Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams both regressed after All-Pro seasons in 2022. And the offense was among the worst in the league for most of the season.
But one of the few bright spots for Las Vegas was the play of their offensive line. The Raiders dealt with a lot of injuries to the unit, but they still managed to play at a relatively high level. In fact, they were one of the better units in the league.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Raiders finished the season with the No. 10 ranked offensive line in the NFL. Here is a snippet of what the site had to say about the unit:
Perhaps the most pleasantly surprising offensive line during the 2023 season, the Raiders’ unit played well above expectations, even when without elite left tackle Kolton Miller. The Raiders tied for the sixth-highest pass-blocking efficiency rating (86.3) in the NFL in 2023.
One of the biggest surprises was the play of second-year offensive tackle Thayer Munford, who made starts at both left and right tackle. After a rough rookie season, Munford played at a high level whenever he was called upon. Now, it’s fair to wonder if he should be a full-time starter in 2024.
The Raiders have a lot of things to fix this offseason, but their offensive line isn’t one of them. The expectation is that most of the starters and key backups will return in 2024, giving them a solid foundation to build around on the offensive side of the ball.
