Off duty nurses run to help man stuck in car after crash

Off-duty nurses ran to help an elderly man who was stuck in his car after a crash.

Merseyside Police were called to School Lane, near the junction of Sefton Drive in Aintree, at around 1pm on Thursday, February 2, following reports of a crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found two cars had crashed, with one man not being able to get out of his Vauxhall Astra.

The man, who was described as elderly by eyewitnesses, was being attended to by at least two off-duty nurses who rushed to the scene after seeing what happened. Police requested help from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) to help remove the man from his car.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "MFRS was called at 1.02pm and on scene at 1.06pm. Once firefighters arrived they found two vehicles had collided, with all vehicles being on four wheels.

"The occupants of one vehicle were all out and uninjured. The driver of the second vehicle was medically trapped inside.

"The driver removed himself from the vehicle and MFRS made the scene safe before leaving at 1.40pm."

The North West Ambulance Service were also called to the scene and took the man to hospital for precautionary checks. Police have said there are not thought to be any serious injuries.

All drivers stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.
