LAURENCE Fox’s tirade against the journalist Ava Evans on GB News resulted in more than 8000 complaints to the UK’s media watchdog.
A total of 8846 complaints were received about the incident, Ofcom confirmed.
The regulator has already announced an official investigation into the incident.
Fox was widely criticised for his appearance on Dan Wootton’s GB News programme, during which he made a series of comments about Evans, who works as a political correspondent for the news website Joe.
Fox said: "Show me a single self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman, ever, ever, who wasn’t an Incel?
“That little woman has been fed, spoon-fed oppression day after day after day… starting with the lie of the gender wage gap, and she’s sat there and I’m going, if I met you in a bar and that was like sentence three, chances of me just walking away are just huge.
“We need powerful strong amazing women who make great points for themselves, we don’t need these sort of feminist 4.0… they’re pathetic and embarrassing. Who would want to shag that?”
Wootton then laughed at Fox’s comments, before later apologising on social media.
Both presenters have since been suspended by the channel pending an investigation with a third presenter, Calvin Robinson, suspended for vocalising his support of Fox.
GB News said Fox’s comments were “totally unacceptable” and did not reflect the values of the channel.
The regulator has previously found GB News to have broken broadcasting rules three times since its launch, with a further six investigations already underway.
Ofcom has the power to issue a substantial fine or even take away the channel’s licence to broadcast if it is found in breach of its rules.
Following previous breaches, the channel’s bosses were asked to attend a meeting to “discuss its approach to compliance”.
