BHUBANESWAR: Students from Odisha, who are stuck in Kharkiv, Ukraine, are facing acute shortage of food and drinking water. After curfew was relaxed in the city at 3pm on Monday, people came out of their bunkers to buy food and stood in long queues to access shops, the students said.
“The curfew was imposed throughout on Sunday. Hence, we could not go out to buy food. It will again remain in effect from 3pm on Monday to 6am on Tuesday,” said Prerana Mishra, a Bhubaneswar resident, who is stuck in Kharkiv. “I, along with several Indian friends, are taking shelter at the basement of Oleksiivska Metro station in Kharkiv. We still hear sounds of frequent bombings. We must stay in the shelter to avoid any untoward incident,” added Mishra, a fifth-year MBBS student in Kharkiv.
Mishra said she had gone to her rented accommodation to bring some food items after the curfew was relaxed. “I tried to purchase food from a shop but aborted the plan after witnessing a long queue in front of it. Some people stood in the queue for more than three hours,” she added. The Bhubaneswar native also said they are facing shortage of water.
