Odisha govt sheds British-era tunic uniform for cops

BHUBANESWAR: The state government has done away with the use of British-era tunic uniform and the colonial Sam Browne belt by the Odisha Police force. It was proposed to the government by DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal recently.

“The government has been pleased to approve changes in the uniform of the Odisha Police. The use of tunic is completely done away with. The use of Sam Browne belt or cross belt shall be limited to ceremonial occasions only when an officer is carrying a sword,” read the state home department’s order issued on February 15.
