Odisha: Bhubaneswar police launches Swaagat to improve services

BHUBANESWAR: As part of the government’s 5T (transparency, technology, teamwork, timeframe and transformation) charter, the commissionerate police launched Swaagat, an IT-based initiative to further improve its citizen-centric services at police stations.

In the first phase, the initiative was rolled out at Capital police station as a pilot project. Police commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi inaugurated the project at the Capital police station in the presence of additional commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash and deputy commissioner of police Prateek Singh. The Swaagat web application was designed and developed by Oasys Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd and logistic support was provided by Falcon Group.

The prime objective of the project is to keep track of the all the visitors coming to the police station for service or complaint-related work and ensure expeditious disposal of their grievances. “If a person visits the police station for any service-related work, then his or her details will be registered in Swaagat database. The visitor will receive a confirmation message in his or her mobile number. The message contains a registration number that will help the registered person for future reference,” Priyadarshi said.

The project consists of a welcome or registration desk along with three other counters—missing desk, services desk, and complaint desk where people will get their related services promptly.

“Some of our female personnel have undergone a soft skill development course in a reputed air hostess training institute. They will man the Swaagat reception centre and deal with the visitors politely,” additional commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash said.

A separate child-friendly room has been set up under the Swaagat initiative. If a female complainant visits the police station with her child, they can sit in the child-friendly room having toys and comic books.

Oasys Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd’s managing director Pradeepta Mohanty said Swaagat web solution would reduce the paperwork in the police station and ease the delivery of police related services without any delay.
