After Odell Beckham Jr. was traded away from the New York Giants, he seemed excited for a fresh start with a new quarterback after spending his entire career, to that point, with Eli Manning.
Looking back years after the trade, OBJ has joined a laundry list of receivers who struggled not find success on the field after leaving Manning.
Over that time, Beckham has wavered on his feelings toward the Giants and some have interpreted that as also “trashing” Manning.
This week, Beckham took aim at someone making that accusation and explained how he really feels about Eli.
“Never said NOTHING bad about E and he knows tht. When ur left to defend urself to the world with no one defending u, sometimes ‘trashing’ another person may simply sound like u sticking up for urself,” Beckham wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I loved and Love Eli Manning, been throwin wit bro since I was 14: don’t have a bad thing to say, I was more (expletive) at the organization for not surrounding Eli with all the pieces he needed to WIN and go out the right way.. but when u haven’t gotten a contract u for damn sure can’t say that. I had to secure my own future for my family: it is what it is. I have no regrets, (life) played out how it was goin to play out.”
The Giants added Saquon Barkley to the offense in 2018. However, the duo of Beckham and Barkley only lasted a year before the Giants sent Beckham to the Cleveland Browns for a trade package including the pick that landed them Dexter Lawrence.
Unfortunately, even with adequate weapons, the Giants undeniably failed Manning given the poor offensive line play at the end of his career — something even co-owner John Mara has admitted.
Meanwhile, with Beckham once again a free agent, you can expect some rumors to fly regarding a potential reunion with Big Blue.
