Punters across Ireland are getting their bets in now on whether or not Ireland is due for a white Christmas this year - but the official forecast may leave some disappointed.
According to the latest odds from Ladbrokes, there has been a surge of support on a white Christmas.
At this point in time, it is just 6/4 that it will snow anywhere in Ireland on Christmas Day, but those odds are “under pressure” according to bookies.
Both Dublin and Belfast have been chalked up at 5/1 to experience a winter wonderland on December 25, and Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Since The Late Late Toy Show last Friday, it seems punters are very much in the festive spirit.
“So much so, we have been snowed under with bets on a white Christmas and the odds suggest punters could get their wish.”
According to Met Eireann, in the week leading up to Christmas Day, predictions are not certain but it looks like rainfall amounts will be lower than expected.
“Looking further ahead to week 4, uncertainty in the forecast grows,” the Irish forecaster says.
“Again, there is little signal in the way of dominant pressure patterns establishing, though rainfall amounts are expected to be lower than normal for the time of year.”
Although these predictions are subject to regular changes as the time nears, at the moment there is not mention of snow or even a wintery shower appearing in the month of December.
