Odds slashed on Brendan Rodgers to Newcastle with pressure mounting on Eddie Howe

Newcastle United were one of the huge success stories of last season, but following their Champions League exit and three successive defeats over the festive period, there have been rumblings on Tyneside about manager Eddie Howe possibly being replaced.

With the Magpies sitting in ninth place in the Premier League, some of the St. James' Park faithful believe Howe may have taken Newcastle as far as he can - and there has been plenty of movement with bookmakers on who could replace him.

Gambling.com have compiled a list of odds for the next manager in the Newcastle dugout, and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is amongst the favourites.

The former Leicester City man currently has odds of 11/2 available with bookmakers. That price has shifted in from the 7/1 on offer just last week, following a 2-1 victory over Rangers.

Rodgers is currently in his second spell as Celtic manager, but he has plenty of Premier League experience after previously guiding Liverpool to second in the 2013-14 season, where the Reds finished just two points behind champions Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho, who was a 3/1 shot last week, is now the 6/4 favourite to land the Newcastle job should Howe go, but he could face stiff competition for the role from the likes of Michel Sanchez.

Sanhez may not be a familiar name to supporters of the English game, but he is enjoying a miracle season in charge of Girona. The Catalonian outfit are 10 points clear of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona - and, after being out at 10/1 previously, media rumours have forced his price to make the move to Tyneside into 2/1.

Former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter is the third favourite, at 3/1. However, if the Newcastle owners are looking for a bigger name star to take over they could make an ambitious move for former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane (4/1).
