October bank holiday weekend travel: Irish Rail works and Dublin Marathon 2022 disruptions

The Halloween bank holiday is finally upon us, but some Irish Rail passengers are being warned that they may face travel disruption due to railway works as well as the Dublin City Marathon forcing some road closures on Sunday.

According to Irish Rail, essential maintenance works are set to take place over the weekend which will affect services between Dublin and Cork, as well as Dublin and Belfast. Due to the works, Irish Rail has said that some trains will not be running over the weekend and replacement bus services will be offered to passengers.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited Dublin Marathon 2022 kicks off on Sunday, and several Dublin roads will be closed to facilitate it. Here's everything you need to know traffic wise in Dublin this weekend.

Irish Rail works

From Saturday 29 October to Monday 31 October, there will be overhead and track works in Malahide, signalling works between Howth and Howth Junction, and culvert replacement between Drogheda and Dundalk.

These changes will apply:

  • Enterprise: Due to works by Translink in Northern Ireland, Dublin to Belfast Enterprise rail services will not operate, with bus replacement services operating.

Portarlington to Ballybrophy works

The line between Portarlington and Thurles is closed from 2:30pm on Saturday, 29 October for signalling works. All services between Dublin and Cork, Kerry and Limerick will be part-replaced by bus transfers, and to a revised schedule, with other services also affected:
