Erotic thriller Obsession landed on Netflix this month but fans have all made the same complaint about one major detail.
Written by playwright Morgan Lloyd-Malcolm, the new drama has drawn viewers into the steamy relationship between surgeon William (Richard Armitage) and his son’s fiancée Anna (Charlie Murphy).
The pair are embroiled in an intense affair as they meet in a furniture-less flat to have passionate, intense sex. Anna tells William about “the rules” where she will control everything except when they’re at the flat, where he can do what he likes.
Their raunchy liaisons soon develop into a dangerous infatuation that threatens to change their lives forever, as William becomes obsessed with his soon-to-be daughter-in-law.
Married William’s fascination with Anna grows as he follows her to Paris, where she is on a romantic weekend away with his son, Jay. But things took a turn when William entered their hotel room and performed a sex act with a pillow that smelt like Anna.
Viewers were left feeling uncomfortable by the BDSM thriller, while others were amused by the shocking storyline - but many have been distracted by one key feature.

Taking to social media, watchers have shared their frustration that the obsession between the pair is unrealistic after it seemed to develop moments after Anna and William first meet.
The chaos begins when Anna seemingly gives sex eyes to her future father-in-law at a Westminster party. The lead characters then encounter a flirty exchange at the bar, where William pops an olive into her mouth…and before you know it he becomes obsessed.
Posting on Twitter, one viewer vented: “Are we supposed to believe that he became infatuated after just a few seconds of staring and forced conversation? Is she a witch? Waste of time.”
Another added: “One look and 1 min of weird af convo, that's what it took for this man to ruin his whole career, that's just laughable #ObsessionNetflix.”
“So #ObsessionNetflix wants to tell me that it took a man 2 seconds of weird starring and a 2 second convo with a woman he just met to blow up his whole life,” penned a third.
A forth stated: “What I don’t understand is how he just fell for her. Like met her once. Some heaving breathing for 2 seconds and now he’s risking it all???”
Another echoed: “#ObsessionNetflix is the new worst thing on telly. Imagine meeting bae's dad in a crowded room, exchanging 3 words and he sexually feeds you an olive???? Cos same.”
Meanwhile, Happy Valley’s Charlie says that although the sex scenes are intense, the cast had fun on set.
At a press screening for the series, she revealed: “Even though we were naked we felt we had armour and we could have fun. I think it all kind of fell into place in the rehearsal.
“In previous jobs, you’d be knocking at someone’s door at 6am going ‘Hi, sorry I know you’re probably getting ready and eating breakfast, but do you mind if I touch your bum in that moment. OK, I’ll see you on set’, that happens."
She added: “So it was such a joy not having to deal with any of that and be afforded time... for me, it makes everything so much richer.”
The four-part series dropped on Netflix on April 13 and is based on Josephine Hart’s novel, Damage.
