French Polynesia is facing growing public health pressures as rising rates of chronic disease combine with an ageing population and changing lifestyles. More than half of adult residents are now considered obese.

Obesity rates in French Polynesia have risen sharply over the past decade, with new government figures showing worsening levels of diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic conditions.
