The Oasis documentary has recorded £2.66 million in sales in the UK and Ireland box office over its opening weekend.
The Steven Knight concert film Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, charts Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant reunion world tour, Oasis Live ‘25.
Showing the rehearsals as well as backstage and onstage access, the documentary featured the first joint interviews with the brothers in more than 20 years after their split in 2009.
The film also explores the emotional impact of the cultural moment and why the rock band’s music continues to resonate with generations of fans, new and old.
Released on Wednesday, the documentary has had positive reviews from critics and received three stars from The Financial Times and four stars from The Guardian, The Independent and The Telegraph.
Rolling Stone praised the film for getting “to the heart of a band that means so much to so many”.
Knight, best known for creating the hit drama Peaky Blinders, previously told the Press Association that they had set up cameras in the rehearsal room to capture things as naturally as possible to avoid making “the film about the making of a concert tour”.
He added: “I sort of insisted that this was how we should approach it: that this was going to be a film about reconciliation and forgiveness.”
The band have had eight UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums, with Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger and Roll With It among their best-known songs.
Co-directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the film will screen at cinemas across the country until September 24, before being made available to stream on Disney.
