Newcastle United progressed to the last eight of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, beating Bournemouth 1-0 at St James' Park. Adam Smith's own goal was enough to see the Magpies' through after the Cherries proved tough to break down on Tyneside.
Eddie Howe named a strong Newcastle XI for the cup clash, sending a clear signal the north east outfit plan to go far in the tournament. The draw for the quarter-final takes place later this week as fans begin to dream of a trip to Wembley.

Gary O'Neil fumes
It was a frustrating night for Bournemouth as they failed to control the St James' Park tie or show consistent attacking threat. Cherries boss Gary O'Neil tried to make changes from the sidelines but his team failed to take heed of instructions.
O'Neil's frustration was evident to see at full-time as he stormed onto the turf after the final whistle as Shakin' Stevens' 'Merry Christmas Everyone' bellowed around the stadium. Whether it was a refereeing decision late in the game or his side's performance, O'Neil looked hacked off as he made his way down the tunnel in the end.
Speaking after the game, however, the Bournemouth boss appeared to have calmed down: "Newcastle away in the Carabao Cup with the form they're in was never going to be an easy draw. The boys gave a real account of themselves.
Bruno's connection
Bruno Guimaraes was thrust back into the starting XI just days after returning to Tyneside following his World Cup exploits. The Brazilian played the majority of the 1-0 win before being replaced by Jonjo Shelvey in the closing stages.
Guimaraes was straight off the bench at full-time as St James' Park burst into applause, with the midfielder turning around and looking towards the top of the Milburn Stand to try and spot his family, subsequently giving them a wave and blowing them a kiss.
After the game, Bruno took to social media to praise his 'connection' with Allan Saint-Maximin, who came off the bench in the second-half. The pair posed for a post-match snap in the dressing room, with Guimaraes writing: "Connection. Love to play with you my friend."
Newcastle fans will be hoping to see more of the duo together in the second-half of the season.
Joelinton's rallying cry
Another Brazilian featured in the 1-0 win as Joelinton returned to Howe's starting lineup. The 26-year-old started on the left of Newcastle's front three but often dropped back into midfield and swapped roles with Joe Willock.
Joelinton has become a leader in the Magpies dressing room in recent months and his presence in this new-look Newcastle side was felt in Tuesday's win, with the midfielder roaring his team forward and barking demands in his second language regularly.
As Newcastle escaped up the pitch in the first-half, Joelinton could be heard bellowing 'Up, Up' to his co-stars who were slow to press Bournemouth without the ball. The kind of leadership Howe will be pleased to see from his key stars.
