NYC woman cancels Depop order after a week of no shipping, only for the seller to instantly spawn in her DM and claim ‘no returns’: ‘You have to. It’s Depop’s policy.’

Basic online selling etiquette isn’t rocket science: communicate fast and ship on time. Yet for New York City creator Natalie (@natalieinspos), a simple Depop purchase allegedly spiraled into a crash course in seller entitlement after a full week of radio silence.

In a TikTok rant that has reached nearly 18,000 views, Natalie called out the sheer audacity running rampant on peer-to-peer apps. What she expected to be an easy cancellation after a week of total ghosting, completely went south. According to her, the seller insisted on operating on pure delusion instead of Depop policy.

Natalie waited a full week before taking matters into her own hands

Natalie told that she purchased a Sonny Angel figurine from a seller on Depop. But allegedly, seven days passed with zero status updates, zero tracking information, and complete radio silence from the seller.

Tired of waiting around with no estimated delivery date, Natalie took the easiest route available. She went to a local physical store, bought the Sonny Angel in person, and submitted an official cancellation request on the app for her pending order.

The response was supposedly instantaneous. The moment the cancellation notification hit the seller’s inbox, they materialized in Natalie’s DM, according to her. The seller then allegedly claimed they were shipping the item right that second. She also asked Natalie to withdraw her cancellation request.

“No, honey, no, I’m sorry,” Natalie said in her recap. “I put in the cancellation before you shipped it. And also, if I want to cancel it, then I can—it’s my order.”

The Depop seller tried to shut down a return with a classic bio disclaimer

When the seller purportedly insisted the package was already heading to her address, Natalie offered a solution. She said she would process a return through the app once the package arrived at her door.

That’s when the seller allegedly tried to pull out the ultimate online resale myth. “Actually, I don’t take returns,” the seller messaged back.

Natalie immediately shut down the excuse, pointing out that an individual account owner cannot override platform-wide rules just by typing a disclaimer into their profile biography.

“That is my biggest ick on Depop: when people have ‘no returns’ in their bio, or ‘no refunds,'” Natalie explained. “Girl, you have to. And if you don’t do it, Depop will take it out of your account either way.”

Do bio disclaimers bypass official app policies on resale apps like Depop?

The “no refunds, no returns” text in a seller’s profile bio is one of the most widespread misconceptions across online secondhand marketplaces like Depop, Poshmark, and eBay. Many sellers believe that operating as an independent individual grants them authority to enforce their own rules.

However, e-commerce terms of service dictate that buyer protection policies always take precedence over a user’s bio text. If a seller takes an unreasonable amount of time to ship an item without communication, or attempts to send an order after a formal cancellation request has been filed, buyer protection mechanisms kick in.

So, placing a custom disclaimer on a profile page holds zero technical weight against platform policy.

Natalie is holding negligent sellers accountable to platform rules

Natalie wrapped up her video by emphasizing that buyers shouldn’t feel guilty for enforcing their rights. “All I want is to return the item that took a week to even get shipped… It’s not my fault you shipped it after I said I want to cancel my order,” she claimed.

So, if the situation arises, don’t let any seller’s custom bio scare you out of your consumer rights. Platform policies exist specifically to keep transactions fair, and no amount of text in a bio can override them. As Natalie said, “Stop saying that you don’t take returns, because you do. You have to. It’s Depop’s policy.”
