NYC judge unseals Trump’s deposition in E. Jean Carroll’s rape and sexual assault lawsuit

NEW YORK — A New York City judge on Friday unsealed portions of former President Donald Trump’s deposition in E. Jean Carroll’s rape and defamation lawsuit against him.

Manhattan Federal Court Judge Lewis Kaplan categorically rejected Trump’s arguments for keeping the deposition under seal, finding them “entirely baseless.”

Carroll has two lawsuits against Trump pending before Judge Kaplan. At the heart of both of them are allegations he raped her inside Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan in the mid 1990s. Trump denies the claim.

The transcript shows Trump doubling down on his comments at the heart of the libel claim and threatening to sue Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan. The sit-down happened at Mar-a-Lago on Oct. 19.

“I will sue her after this is over, and that’s the thing I really look forward to doing. And I’ll sue you too because this is — how many cases do you have? Many, many cases,” he asked. “I will be suing you also, but I’ll be suing her very strongly as soon as this case ends. But I’ll be suing you also.”

“Are you done?” Kaplan replied.

“Yeah,” Trump said.

The unsealing order came hours after Judge Kaplan rejected an application from Trump to dismiss the case.
