NYC construction workers scramble to stabilize high-rise after support beams buckle

Construction is underway to help stabilize a New York City high-rise after buckling beams were discovered by workers, triggering warnings of a potential collapse.

Footage shows the emergency repairs underway, with workers shoring up the damage inside the massive office building that was being converted into residential housing.

The discovery on Tuesday (7 July) morning resulted in the evacuation of workers on site, as well as people in nearby buildings.

There were no reported injuries, according to police.

"I can say right now that the building is stable, it has not moved since we started monitoring earlier today and we feel confident in the emergency plan that we have now to make it stable," New York City Department of Buildings Commissioner Ahmed Tigani said.
