NYC attraction urges visitors to wear pants as reflective floor bares all

The reflective floors leave little to the imagination

New York is famed for having some of the best skylines in the world, but now one Manhattan hot spot has urged visitors to wear pants to avoid baring a different type of view.

On Thursday, The Summit at Midtown Manhattan’s One Vanderbilt skyscraper unveiled a brand new Instagrammable deck.

The 1,401-foot tall tower dominates the skyline, and while visitors are eager to be their best dressed for an IG photo-op, the attraction has warned that the reflective floors can leave little to the imagination to those passing by below deck.

The flaw was soon highlighted by peer groups who visited The Summit ahead of its grand opening, which prompted the website to advise visitors to “dress in a manner to avoid such exposure.”

“Guests who are concerned about unwanted exposure as a result of the mirrored floors and ceilings are responsible for dressing in a manner to avoid such exposure,” it said.

Some visitors were unfazed by the recommended dress code. Tourist Daisy Esdrello told the New York Post she deliberately ignored the advice, “I think a skirt looks much better in photos.”

While others thought, “it wasn’t worth the risk” and opted for shorts underneath their skirts.

For those blissfully unaware of the risk, The Summit offers free black shorts upon request.

In addition to wearing pants, visitors are advised to “wear comfortable shoes” as “stiletto heels, steel toe boots, sports cleats, and other footwear” can damage the flooring.

They also recommend bringing sunglasses as the “reflective materials used throughout the space create a bright environment.”

Costing between $33 to $73 (and even more at sunset), creator Kenzo Digital said that the exhibition “shares the intoxicating sense of aspiration and inspiration that New York gives … A beacon of possibility that pays tribute to all that New York is, can be, will be.”
