Nurses call for 'full security audit' of hospitals after elderly patient Matthew Healy is beaten to death in Cork

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is calling for a full security audit of all hospitals after the death of an elderly patient on a ward at the Mercy University Hospital in Cork at the weekend.

89-year-old Matthew Healy was allegedly beaten to death by another inpatient at the Cork facility on Sunday morning. The victim and alleged perpetrator were not known to each other.

A man in his 30s was arrested and gardaí continue to question him.
