Nurse who said Tory voters 'don't deserve to be resuscitated' claims she's been SACKED

A nurse who sparked fury when she said people who voted Tory “don’t deserve to be resuscitated” live on TV claims she is being vilified online and has lost her job.

Miranda Hughes, 46, made the remark during a debate called Britain on The Brink hosted by Jeremy Vine on Channel 5 on Monday, with people online saying she should be sacked for the jibe.

Now she has told the Daily Telegraph she is set to lose her job because of the “Twitterati”.

She told the publication: “I am being vilified for being some monster that doesn't care and unfortunately the problem is I care too much.

“I can't do what's right and it frustrates the hell out of me because I've been sick myself, I've had to watch people die and there are no resources to help.

Miranda had earlier told the debate: “If you are there to do a job as a compassionate person there are no resources and you are told on the news that care homes are being ring fenced.

It’s a lie and I’m sorry but if you have voted Conservative you do not deserve to be resuscitated by the NHS.

“I know that’s harsh.”

Several people online said Miranda had deserved to lose her job for the inflammatory comments made on TV this week.

One said: “I normally hate the whole cancel culture thing but in this moron’s case then yes definitely deserves to be sacked.

“She is/was a registered nurse, her job is to save people’s lives no matter what their political views are.

“Sorry but Miranda Hughes you are a disgrace to the NHS.”

Some said she did not deserve to lose her job, despite the comments.

One said: “What Miranda Hughes said was vile.

“I have no doubt she is a vile individual and probably one of those who laughs when Tories/leavers meet awful misfortune.

“But I never really liked people being sacked under 'disrepute' clauses, for (non-crime) activities outside work.”

Miranda currently works for south London-based private healthcare and rehabilitation provider, HCML.

They said in a statement: “The opinions expressed by the individual are their own personal views and do not represent those of the company.

“The company has policies which determine the permissibility of comments made by employees in the media or on social media and we will be investigating the extent to which the comments in question breached these policies.

“If a breach is found to have occurred then appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

“Our employees are p[assionate clinical professionals who are dedicated to ensuring our patients receive the very best care and treatment they need.”
