Nuno Da Costa to leave Nottingham Forest for reunion with former loan club

Nottingham Forest forward Nuno Da Costa is set to leave the club after agreeing a return to French side Caen.

Da Costa had reportedly been close to joining Ligue 1 new boys Auxerre, but it is understood he will will sign for Caen having impressed on loan with the Ligue 2 outfit last season.

The 31-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his deal after a difficult time at the City Ground. Signed for £2million from Strausbourg in January 2020, Da Costa has never scored for Forest, although he notoriously has registered an own goal having turned the ball into the back of his net during the nightmare defeat to Stoke City which cost the Reds a play-off place in the 2019/20 season.

Da Costa has played just 13 times for Forest and was also loaned to Belgian side Mouscron, scoring six goals in 25 appearances. The Cape Verde international enjoyed success with Caen last season, scoring nine times and adding four assists in 24 league appearances.

Da Costa's move to Caen is likely to be on a permanent basis rather than a loan, although he will have effectively ended his time as Forest player either way. Da Costa's departure will be one of a quartet of exits for fringe players from the squad.

Joe Lolley is poised to depart for Australia and the A League with Sydney FC his reported destination.

Meanwhile, midfielder Braian Ojeda has joined MLS side Real Salt Lake on loan with an option to buy the player and Richie Laryea is set to return to former club Toronto FC on loan in order to help preserve his place in Canada's World Cup squad as they prepare for their first finals appearance since 1986.
