Nuisance groups of youths dispersed after undercover police take the bus in Strelley

Groups of anti-social youths causing mayhem on buses have been tackled by officers during an incognito operation.

A mixture of plain clothed and uniformed officers took part in a 'Trojan Bus' operation following reports that young people had been vandalising and throwing stones at buses.

Police officers dispersed three groups while riding the bus route along Strelley Road, Strelley, last Thursday evening (17 February 2022) .

Officers were able to hand out three direction to leave notices after a dispersal order was put in place by the Neighbourhood Policing Inspector.

Nottinghamshire Police are working closely with Nottingham City Transport (NCT) to carry out officer ride-a-longs as part of ‘Trojan Bus’ operations, which take place regularly across the city.

Sergeant Ian Johnson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Tackling youth related anti-social behaviour is one of the key priorities for our city west neighbourhood policing team, so we’re pleased to have been able to help tackle this as part of this operation.

“We have unfortunately received reports of people throwing stones at buses in the Strelley area, which is completely unacceptable and is also extremely dangerous.

“There is no place for this type of behaviour on our streets, so we will continue to work closely with NCT to support the ‘Trojan Bus’ project in the future, so that we can stop these types of incidents from taking place.”

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Head of Marketing said: “Our thanks to Nottinghamshire Police for their continued support in addressing recent cases of objects being thrown at our buses, including our Trojan Bus project which is a bus carrying police officers ready to respond to any issues and apprehend offenders.

“Throwing objects at buses is dangerous and could cause serious injury to someone on board.

“NCT would encourage anyone with information on who has been throwing objects to contact the police on 101.”
