The Northern Territory Health Department has reported the death of a remote community resident in his 60s from COVID-19.
There have now been 31 COVID-related deaths in the NT since the pandemic began.
In a statement, NT Health said the man from a remote community in the East Arnhem region had died at Royal Darwin Hospital, and that he had underlying health conditions.
An NT Health spokesman said the man had died on Monday, March 7, and Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie had verified his death as related to COVID-19 on Thursday night.
NT Health also said there are currently 29 people in Territory hospitals with COVID-19, a drop on the 33 in hospital on Thursday.
Of those, six patients are requiring oxygen and one is in ICU.
There were also 273 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the Territory in the 24 hours up to 8pm on Thursday – a decrease on the 326 cases reported the previous day – including 241 detected from rapid antigen tests.
Of those new cases, there were 204 recorded in the Top End, 32 in Central Australia, five in East Arnhem and 15 in Big Rivers, while 17 are still under investigation.
Across the Territory, there are currently 1,990 active COVID-19 cases.
