A Sydney police officer has been suspended after being accused of stalking, sexual assault, and domestic violence offences.
Constable Joshua Wootton was arrested on Tuesday in the wake of Police Strike Force Mattm investigating allegations of stalking from two women, both aged 26.
The 31-year-old allegedly raped one of the women on two occasions — once in 2014 and once in 2017.
He also allegedly destroyed the woman's property, physically assaulted her, and stalked her during various incidents over an eight-year period.
Mr Wootton allegedly stalked the second woman throughout early 2022.
The 31-year-old was charged with nine offences in total.
The charges include two counts of sexual intercourse without consent, three counts of stalking with intent to cause fear, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, accessing data held in a computer, public office misconduct and malicious damage to property.
It is alleged he also allegedly broke into the NSW Police Force's central online database without authorisation in February of this year.
Mr Wootton appeared in Downing Centre Local Court today where his case was adjourned until August 3.
Police prosecutors told the court they would not act in the case, suggesting it be passed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr Wootton stared at the ground and remained silent as he left the courthouse.
NSW Police says Mr Wootton has been stood down from duties and his employment status is under review.
