In the wake of two bodies being found near Sydney airport wrapped in plastic, NSW Police have reported they believe the husband and wife were victims of a “targeted double murder”.
Last week news broke that a woman’s body was found in a “severe state of decomposition” beside a footpath near Sydney airport. More recently, she was identified as 33-year-old Zhuojun ‘Sally’ Li.
Today, the body of Li’s husband Jai-Bao “Rex” Chen was believed to have been found submerged in a creek, just 10 metres away from his wife’s remains.
Police are launching a full investigation into the alleged murders, and currently believe that the couple was killed as a result of their “financial debts”.
“There was no other criminality that we’re aware of, and certainly Sally has unfortunately become a victim because of that,” said Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty.
The couple was last seen in November, and police have reported no domestic violence-related incidents. Police were notified of Li’s disappearance in early December, when her mother couldn’t find her.
According to NSW Police, two suspects were made aware of them when they tracked Chen’s phone to Queensland.
“We’re looking at the possibility that both, at least two people involved are offshore,” Doherty told reporters.
“We believed it was used by a third party… that would be the people responsible for the murder of both (Li and Chen)”.
The vehicle believed to have transported the bodies has been seized by police and is undergoing examination.
However, detectives are still urging anyone with dash cam footage from Foreshore Road in the early hours of November 30 to come forward.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
