NRL heavyweights meet fried chicken royalty. Customers at Pappa Flock got more than just a secret sauce last week when NRL legends Willie Mason and Justin Horo traded the footy field for the deep fryer last Friday.
Dropping the whistles to pick up the tongs, the pro-rugby-players-turned-podcasters duo spent the afternoon serving up smiles, chips, and chicken to a stunned crowd of fans.

The pair worked under the strict guidance of Pappa Flock’s head chef Eddie Cofie to take orders and then get them ready to go in the kitchen.
But why are two NRL legends serving up chicken?
Pappa Flock reopened the doors to its OG store after it was shut for a big revamp, and Mason and Horo were tapped in to come and help out with the celebrations.
The return to the original restaurant isn’t just about a fresh coat of paint; it’s a milestone for the brand. The newly-renovated space features a modern aesthetic designed to handle the high-octane demand Pappa Flock has seen since its inception. It features a brand new ‘Flavour Up’ condiments station, where customers can enjoy a fully-stocked self-service sauce hub. There’s a mix of sweet, sour and spicy; think honey, pickle combo, spicy pickles, spicy seasoning and hot sauce.

The chicken shop has grown massively since it opened its first store in Parramatta in 2023. Now, Pappa Flock has 12 stores across two states — New South Wales and Queensland. It went viral when Sydneysiders picked up on the fact that its chicken tenders are akin to the American fast food chain, Raising Cane’s, which has long been the “holy grail” for fried chicken fans.
Only downside was we couldn’t get it in Australia… until Pappa Flock came to the rescue.
Whether you’re a die-hard NRL fan or just someone who takes their fried chicken very seriously, Pappa Flock’s revamped Parramatta store is clearly leaning into the hype. And honestly, if getting served tenders by Willie Mason and Justin Horo isn’t enough to convince you to make the trip, the promise of Raising Cane’s-style chicken and an unlimited sauce station probably will. Sydney’s fried chicken scene just got even more competitive — and Pappa Flock seems more than ready for it.
