NRL investigating homophobic slur in game

The NRL is investigating after a Warriors player appeared to use a homophobic slur towards North Queensland winger Kyle Feldt in the match at Redcliffe.

The incident was picked up by broadcast microphones in the 60th minute of Friday's game, which was eventually won by the Warriors 25-24 with a golden point.

After Warriors' winger Marcelo Montoya had been penalised for high contact on Peta Hiku, Feldt was on the ground having also been tackled by Montoya moments after the incident which led to the penalty.

As the Warriors argued the decision with the referee, an unknown player can be heard shouting, "get up Kyle, you f****t".

An NRL spokesman told AAP they were "aware and investigating" the incident.

A player can be charged with contrary conduct if the NRL can prove who said the slur.

A grade one contrary conduct charge carries a $1000 fine with an early plea if it's the first offence, while grade two and higher charges carry suspensions.

Former Wests Tigers playmaker Mitchell Moses was handed a two-game ban for using a homophobic slur towards Canberra Raiders lock Luke Bateman in 2014 while playing in the NSW under-20s side.
