Novak Djokovic continues his return to tournament action with a round of 16 match against Karen Khachanov in the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The world number one played on Monday for the first time since being deported from Australia, easing past Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.
Djokovic has won the tournament in Dubai five times, and showed no real signs of rustiness in his opening win.
“A pleasant experience,” Djokovic said after the match.
“I couldn’t pick a better place to kick start the season - it was the best possible experience tonight.
“All in all, it’s a straight-sets win so of course I have to be satisfied, especially after not playing for two and a half, almost three months.”
He faces Karen Khachanov next, who was knocked out of the Australian Open by Rafael Nadal as the Spaniard went all the way in Melbourne.
Khachanov needed three sets to get past Alex de Minaur on Tuesday, playing his opening match a day later than Djokovic.
